Longtime was honored Friday by the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Board of Aldermen, who gave him his own "day."
Hayes, a communications professor at Webster University and an active volunteer in senior wellness programs, was lauded for more than 30 years of volunteering with social programs in the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ community.
"It doesn’t matter how I look at it: As dean of the school of communications, student of media history or citizen of ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½, Bernie Hayes is a treasure,†deanÌýEric RothenbuhlerÌýsaid.
Hayes came to ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ in the mid-1960s playing soul music in the afternoons and jazz during the evening on KATZ. He still has a hand in both print and broadcast journalism, writing a column for the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ American and hosting a current affairs show on KNLC (Channel 24).
