Effective Jan. 1, Sedey, 42, will succeed Michael D. Bolen as the head of the company. Bolen, who has led Ladue-based McCarthy for 20 years, will remain chairman of the $3.9 billion employee-owned company.

McCarthy, with roots in ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ stretching back 100 years and a national footprint, is one of the largest employee-owned companies in the country. It spent more than three years working on a succession plan, Bolen said, adding that Sedey has “a deep understanding of our company strategy and unique ownership culture.â€�

The company is behind some of the largest construction projects in ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½, such as the $280 million Washington University east end project and the $187 million Union Station aquarium. This year, a joint venture it leads was chosen for the $712 million National Geospatial Intelligence campus north of downtown.

“Continuity is probably the key word,� Bolen said. “The company is in the best shape and position that it’s ever been in its history.�

Sedey began at McCarthy in 2000 as a project engineer in the firm’s Southwest region and took over operations for the Las Vegas office in 2009. In 2012, Sedey was promoted to executive vice president over business operations in Nevada, New Mexico and Colorado. He was tapped to lead McCarthy’s Texas region in 2015 and led efforts to combine the company’s Southeast division with its Texas region.

Sedey will split his time between ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ and McCarthy’s Dallas office, and there will be no impact on the company’s ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ headquarters, a company spokeswoman said. Bolen splits his time between McCarthy’s Southern California office and ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½.
