Congresswoman Ann Wagner is going to bat once again, defending Taiwan against China. And this time around, she hopes to get the U.S. Senate to go along.
Last week, Wagner reintroduced a measure that was passed almost unanimously in 2023 by the U.S. House.
Wagner’s bill would eliminate restrictions on U.S.-Taiwan contact, measures that had been in place for decades to appease China.
Those measures were lifted in early 2021, but then reimposed by the Biden Administration. Wagner's 2023 bill stalled in the U.S. Senate.
"The People’s Republic of China is hell-bent on exerting power over Taiwan and expanding their hostile influence to the detriment of the entire world,†Wagner said recently.
Wagner also said the bill "will signal to the world that the United States will never kowtow to Communist China."

One of the bill's goals is to look for chances to lift any remaining limitations on engagements between the U.S. government and Taiwan.
