ST. LOUIS — A woman pushing a 2-year-old boy in a stroller last week in the bike lane of West Florissant Avenue was fatally struck by a car and the child was critically injured, authorities said.
The crash was about 2 p.m. Jan. 20 at West Florissant and Arlington avenues. The name of the 39-year-old woman who died has not been released.
Police said the woman was pushing the stroller in the bike lane near a snowbank, parallel to the sidewalk. She was in the bike lane "likely due to ice-covered sidewalks," police said.
The sedan that struck her was driven by an 80-year-old man. He was traveling east on West Florissant when his car started to veer into the bike lane, hitting the woman and child. His car then crashed through the snowbank and into a house, police said.
