ST. LOUIS 鈥 City development officials on Tuesday approved a $500,000 contract to form a design plan for a northside jobs hub.
The board of the Land Clearance for Redevelopment Authority signed off on the contract with 蜜芽传媒-based Christner Architects for the second phase of , a city-backed workforce training hub for manufacturing jobs.
蜜芽传媒 officials bought the 150,000-square-foot industrial site, at 3940 Martin Luther King Drive in the Vandeventer neighborhood, last year. Killark Electric, a subsidiary of manufacturing firm Hubbell Inc., which provides products for harsh and hazardous locations, formerly occupied the site before moving to Fenton five years ago.
Christner is nearly done with phase one of the project, which included a site survey, a structural assessment and a framework for design. The next phase would entail finalizing design and construction documents for the west side of the property and a conceptual design for the east side.

New apartments
Also on Tuesday, the LCRA board approved the agency to issue up to $60 million in bonds to facilitate a sales tax exemption on construction materials for new apartments in the Near North Riverfront area.
The project at 2000 North Broadway would renovate a warehouse into 177 new apartments and over 11,000 square feet of commercial space. The project will receive 20 years of tax abatement.
Zach Wilson, a vice president at 蜜芽传媒 Development Corp., called the project a 鈥減ossible game changer for North Broadway.鈥
Construction is expected to start in October.
