COLUMBIA, Mo. — Missouri made its first acquisition of the spring transfer portal window promptly, signing tight end Gavin Hoffman.
Hoffman, who hails from Leawood on the Kansas side of Kansas City, spent his freshman season at Iowa. He visited Mizzou Thursday after the portal opened and quickly committed, announcing his decision on social media Friday morning.
His agent, Alexander Essex, told the Post-Dispatch ahead of the visit that Hoffman received "overwhelming" interest from other Southeastern Conference and power conference programs, but only had interest in meeting with MU.Â
Iowa listed Hoffman as 6-feet-5, 237 pounds. He was rated a four-star recruit by 247Sports during the 2024 recruiting cycle, ranked as the best player in Kansas and 12th best tight end in his class. He did not appear in a game for the Hawkeyes and redshirted.

Hoffman will provide depth behind Brett Norfleet and Jordon Harris at tight end, which could be valuable as both have battled injuries in recent seasons. He's the Tigers' first portal addition of the spring.
In other spring portal developments, Illinois State transfer wide receiver Xaiver Loyd told the Post-Dispatch that he was also visiting Mizzou Thursday. Loyd, who also hails from the Kansas City area, caught 66 passes for 912 yards and six touchdowns in 2024.
